This weekend sees
Stratford upon Avon once again hosting its much-loved River Festival. Held last year for the first time in over thirty years, it was such a fabulous success that it will now become an annual event, much to the delight of the people of Stratford and to river-users across the county.
There will be something for everyone at this event, which centres around the Recreation Ground and, of course, along the river. On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July there will be a Family Zone with educational and interactive activities including storytelling, face painting and holistic therapy demonstrations.
Music will be played from string quartets to gypsy jazz, gospel choirs to orchestral musicians. The funk and disco will have everyone up and dancing, and as usual the belly-dancers will delight the crowds.
River demonstrations will be on both days from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the Severn Area Rescue Association, the Sea Cadets and more, with the chance to view gondolas and coracles – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg (only kidding! No icebergs on the wonderful
River Avon).
On Sunday special guest Timothy West will be reading the winning entry from a poetry competition, and later he and his wife Prunella Scales will be demonstrating their marvellous acting skills with storytelling in the Family Zone.
Enjoy a browse in the craft fair and stop off for a cuppa and a snack at one of the many refreshment areas.
And best of all, it’s free entry for everyone! So no excuses, come on down and enjoy your weekend with the Stratford upon Avon River Festival.
